The Madison Cooperative Development Coalition, the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives, and Worker Justice Wisconsin Awarded a Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Project Grant!
Baldwin Project Grants support “substantial, mutually beneficial endeavors that foster extended relationships between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and collaborators across Wisconsin and beyond. Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Projects are animated by innovative ideas and are shaped by the priorities, needs and interests of the communities they serve.”
With support from the Baldwin WI Idea Grant, MCDC and UWCC will partner with Worker Justice Wisconsin (WJW), MadWorC, the Madison Public Library, and the UW Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic, among others, to provide linguistically and culturally relevant cooperative education and technical assistance. We will support WJW in incubating cooperatives among their mostly Latinx and immigrant worker community, creating democratic workplaces and dignified employment among those who could most benefit. Building upon our years of collaboration, we are committed to leveraging this grant to further strengthen the local cooperative ecosystem and deepen our support for BIPOC cooperators.
MCDC works to build meaningful relationships among campus and community partners that serve workers and entrepreneurs, and provide business development education. If you would like to engage in this work, please contact Charity Schmidt at charity.schmidt@wisc.edu or 608-262-5905.
