Cooperativa de Contabilidad Common Good (Bien Com\u00fan)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CGB arose out of a need recognized by local worker cooperatives and small community non-profits for affordable bookkeeping and admin services for startups, small businesses and organizations who don\u2019t have the capacity for such expertise in-house. CGBC is a worker cooperative that provides financial and administrative support services and training. These include: bookkeeping, payroll and tax processing, start-up filings, worker co-op startup support, data entry, database support, and more. CGBC is located at the Social Justice Center, 1202 Williamson St., in Madison. Ra\u00edces para el Cambio<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raices para el Cambio — in English, Roots4Change — is Dane County’s first co-op led by Latina\/indigenous women. Most of the women are first-time business owners. Their work focuses on doula services and post-natal care, but they also offer support well into childhood, such as healthy eating demonstrations and art classes. They specialize in cultural awareness of the needs of the Latinx\/indigenous community. They were incubated by Centro Hispano, which received a CBO grant from MCDC. nINA Collective<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

nINA’s launch happened virtually on May 13th, 2020, due to the pandemic. Get It Right Educators Cooperative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get It Right Educators Cooperative<\/a> is a non-profit worker cooperative of educators in Madison. They staffed the Milestone Democratic School<\/a>, an “independent, tuition-free, open-enrollment public secondary charter school” on Madison’s east side until 2024. It operated on a highly participatory model, to the point where much of the school was designed by its own students. A student was also the President of the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Small Axe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small Axe<\/a> is a legal services cooperative, focusing on serving oppressed people. They provide services for entities (such as businesses and co-ops), and individuals (including wills and name change). They also hold educational events on topics such as legal name changes and will-writing. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Los Volcanes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los Volcanes is an up-and-coming, cooperatively-run association that focuses on screenprinting, sewing, and embroidery. They are being incubated by Worker Justice Wisconsin<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

MACHA Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MACHA Services, the worker-cooperative outgrowth of the Madison Area Cooperative Housing Alliance (MACHA) that began in 2021, is dedicated to growing the community of housing cooperatives. MACHA works with people going through the process of developing their own housing cooperative from start to finish — writing grants, developing bylaws, finding members, building community, and so on — and existing cooperatives to be more administratively effective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustaining and creating affordable housing through an intentional community can be hard work, but MACHA Services allows folks to do the more joyous work of making space for human flourishing. Learn more about them on their el sitio web de nINA Collective<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Co-ops We Have Worked With<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Starting a worker cooperative can be challenging, and starting during the pandemic was especially challenging. The people who started these cooperatives put in a lot of hard work, and we want to acknowledge that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soaring Independent Cooperative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El cuidado de salud en casa es el sector de mayor crecimiento dentro del cooperativismo de trabajo, y ahora Madison est\u00e1 participando de ese crecimiento con Soaring Independent Cooperative<\/a> (SIC). Madison CycleWorks is a worker-owned cooperative offering bike-centric services, including mobile bike repair and pedal-powered delivery. Madison Cannabis Community Co-op<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cooperative put in a lot of work during the pandemic, but is taking a break. Their goal is to create CBD products to be sold in local stores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the co-ops that have launched<\/strong>, we are working with around a dozen co-ops in development (the exact number is constantly changing). Some are very early in the process of organizing, others are close to launching, and the rest are somewhere in between.
